Annual Review Workshop of NICRA - Technology Demonstration Component of ICAR-ATARI Zone-VIII, Pune was held on 7thAugust, 2020

 

The annual review workshop of Technology Demonstration Component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture of ICAR-ATARI Zone-VIII,Pune was held on 7thAugust, 2020 through video conferencing. Dr Ashok Dhawan, Vice Chancellor-VNMKV, Dr MC Varshneya, former Vice-chancellor-AAU-Anand and Kamadhenu University-Gandhinagar and Chairman-Zonal monitoring committee of west zone, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director-ICAR-CRIDA, Dr Lakhan Singh, Director-ICAR-ATARI, Pune, Shri Vijay Borade, Trustee-MSSM & PD, KVK-Jalna, Directors of Extension of PDKV-Akola, BSKKV-Dapoli, GAU-Junagarh, PC’s of NICRA KVKs and KVK staff involved in NICRA project, heads of divisions of ICAR-CRIDA, Co-PIs of TDC participated in the workshop.

 

Dr Ashok Dhawan, Vice Chancellor, VNMKV, Parbhani in his inaugural address emphasised the need to focus on enhancing farmers income in NICRA villages apart from minimising the impact of climatic variability. He stressed the need to generate evidences on how the NICRA interventions minimised the impact of COVID-19. Dr MC Varshneya recalled the promising resilient technologies in the districts of Nandurbar, Pune and Ahmednagar and emphasized the need to spread the technologies in convergence mode. Dr G Ravindra Chary highlighted the need to focus on deliverables and appreciated the work done by KVKs during the lockdown. Dr Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Pune in his opening remarks strengthened about the success stories of resilient practices in NICRA villages by 13 KVKs. Dr JVNS Prasad gave brief overview of the programme in the zone and emphasised about theaction points of the 12thHLMC meeting held on 23rd June, 2020. Directors of Extension spoke about the impact of interventions.

 

During the workshop, 13 KVKs presented the significant achievements of 2019-20 and the action plans for the year 2020-21 which were discussed and several suggestions were made. During the valedictory session, action points were identified for implementation in a time bound manner. 


   
  
   
 




 

 
   

High Level Monitoring Committee meeting of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture Project organized

 

Twelfth High Level Monitoring Committee (HLMC) meeting of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project was held through video conferencing on 23rd June, 2020.  Dr.T Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR chaired the meeting. Dr SK Chaudhari, DDG (NRM) welcomed the participants. Shri Sanjay Singh, AS (DARE) and Secretary, ICAR, Shri Bimbadhar Pradhan, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (DARE/ICAR), Dr K Alagusundaram, DDG (Agril. Engg.), Dr AK Singh, DDG (AE), Dr AK Singh, DDG (HS), Dr JK Jena, DDG (Fisheries), Dr TR Sharma, DDG (CS), Dr BN Tripathi, DDG (AS), Ms Namita Priyadarshee, JS (DAC & FW), Ms Leena Johri, JS (MoRD & PR),Ms. Richa Sharma, JS (MoEFCC), Shri Kushal Vashisth (MoEFCC), Shri G. Ashok Kumar, Mission Director, NWM (MoWR), Dr. D. Dutta (DST), Dr. S.D. Attri (IMD), Dr. A.K. Rawat, Advisor (DBT), Dr. B. Venkateswarlu, Member, NICRA Expert Committee and other officials from various ministries and departments, Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (AAFCC), Dr. Adlul Islam, ADG (SWM),  Dr. G. Ravindra Chary, Director and Scientists from CRIDA, representatives from various Ministries and Departments also participated and provided inputs.

 

Hon'ble DG, ICAR highlighted the recognition for NICRA project at national and global level.  He further suggested to evolve institutional mechanism and strategies to expand translation of NICRA research and demonstration outcomes/outputs particularly with greater engagement with ministries/departments; and more interface with ICAR institutes; to strengthen seed and fodder production systems in the NICRA villages  for the next phase of NICRA.

 

Shri Bimbadhar Pradhan emphasized the importance of climate resilient agriculture towards doubling of farmers’ income and its relevance to climate change. Shri Sanjay Singh suggested that the project should address the problems faced by the farmers and advised to document the project outcomes and to share with stakeholders. DDGs of ICAR and officials from various ministries/departments provided many key inputs for next phase of NICRA.

 

Dr S Bhaskar presented the ATR on the previous HLMC, Dr G Ravindra Chary on the overview of NICRA followed by presentations by Dr M Prabhakar, PI-NICRA and Dr JVNS Prasad, Co-PI, NICRA. Major recommendations of the meeting include to establish linkages with other ministries and departments and focus on the emerging challenges and research gaps.


   
  
   
 




 

 
   

15th Expert Committee Meetingof NICRA held under the chairmanship of DDG (NRM) on 12th June, 2020 through video conferencing

 

15th Expert Committee Meeting of NICRA was held under the chairmanship of Dr SK Chaudhari, DDG (NRM) through video conferencing.The conference was co-chaired by Dr TR Sharma, DDG (CS). Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC), Dr KK Singh,ADG (AE),Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA & Member Secretary along withNICRA Expert Committee members participated in the meeting.


Dr SKChaudhari, DDG (NRM) appreciated commendable research outputs of strategic research and felt further upscalingthem through technology demonstrations.He suggested to document success stories under NICRA. Dr TR Sharma, DDG (CS) in his remarks suggested to continue the work of climate resilient varieties for abiotic stress and involve group of scientists (Plant breeders, agronomy, soil science, biotechnology). He has also emphasized the need to develop resilient varieties in oilseeds sector (soybean and rapeseed & mustard). Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC) in his remarks suggested that flux network can be strengthened in the next phase. Dr KK Singh, ADG (AE) has opined that monitoring of NICRA should be strengthened. Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), ICAR-CRIDA welcomed the participants and emphasized that the climate resilient varieties have to be given importance in next phase. This wasfollowed by presentation by Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA,ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad.
