Technical Program Finalization Workshop of NICRA Strategic Partner Institutes under Horticulture & Crop Protection organized

 

Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Horticulture & Crop Protection institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 1st September, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

NICRA Expert Committee members viz., Dr NK Krishna Kumar, Former DDG (Horticultural Science), ICAR & Former Coordinator Biodiversity International, New Delhi and Dr SK Pandey, Former Director, ICAR-CPRI, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 7 partner institutes viz., IIHR, IIVR, IISR, CAZRI, NCIPM, CRIDA & IIHR participated. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and desired that technologies in this sector are highly needed to address the impact of climate change. He further opined that collaboration between institutes for developing pest and disease forewarning system. Dr S Bhaskar suggested to avoid the overlapping of institute activities with NICRA work and to divide the objectives into short term, mid-term and long-term. He further suggested to address the food security in relation to climate change. Dr SK Pandey opined to release the tomato lines resistant to heat stress developed so far for large scale cultivation and also suggested to create root stock bank at IIHR/IIVR. Dr NK Krishna Kumar advised to study the changing pest patterns, their impact on crop and to study the impact of climate change on all field and horticultural crops.

 

This was followed by presentations from the Principal Investigators and detailed discussion. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA.
