Review Workshop of Technology Demonstration Component of NICRA of ICAR-ATARI, Barapani   


The concluding review workshop of Technology Demonstration Component of NICRA of ICAR-ATARI, Barapani was held on 26th, May 2021 through virtual mode under the chairmanship of Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI. The Chief Guest of the workshop was Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. The meeting was attended by Dr. H.K. Senapati, Chairman, ZMC, Dr. R. Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal, Dr. J.V.N.S. Prasad, Principal Scientist & Co-PI, NICRA-TDC, Dr. M. Prabhakar, Principal Scientist & PI, NICRA, along with other Scientists from ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. Heads of NICRA KVKs of the participating districts and also the new districts and KVK staff involved in NICRA project, Project Coordinators at ICAR-CRIDA, Heads of Divisions of ICAR-CRIDA, Co-PIs of TDC, staff of ICAR-ATARI, Umiam and ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati attended the workshop.


Dr. A.K. Singha formally welcomed the chief guest, chairman, DEE from CAU and all participants. He spoke about the climatic vulnerabilities addressed as part of the NICRA programme in the zone. Dr J.V.N.S. Prasad, spoke about the approach to be adopted in the next phase. He said that the farming systems typologies, constraints and climatic risks in the districts/villages needs to be identified and complete package of proven climatic resilient technologies needs to be demonstrated to minimize the impact of climate change in the villages. He also focused on the approaches for scaling up of technologies in the districts. Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI has presented the salient achievements of the NICRA KVKs during the last three years who emphasized on scaling up of resilient technologies. The TDC programme is operational in 14 districts in the zone, out of which only 8 districts are continuing in next phase and 5 new districts will be joining the program. Dr. R. Sharma, DEE, CAU, Imphal shared his experiences about the performance of resilient technologies in NICRA villages in reducing the impact of droughts and floods.


Dr. H.K. Senapati, Chairman, ZMC appreciated the interventions of the KVKs in the NICRA villages and he also emphasised on documentation of the activities in order to provide more visibility to the good work done by the KVKs. Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, emphasized that the technologies to be demonstrated based on farming system typologies. A complete package of technologies, depending on the resources, crop, livestock are to be identified and demonstrated. The promising resilient technologies are to be scaled up through convergence with other line departments and NGOs so as to spread the technologies to larger areas.


During the meeting, 14 KVKs presented consolidated reports and 8 districts presented technical programme for next phase of NICRA-TDC. During the presentations several suggestions were made regarding the action plan for the year 2021-22. Dr. M. Thoithoi Devi proposed vote of thanks.
