Review Workshop of Technology Demonstration Component of NICRA of ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur    


 

The concluding and annual review workshop of Technology Demonstration Component of NICRA of ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati was held on 27th, May 2021 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI. The Chief Guest of the workshop was Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. Dr. H.K. Senapati, Chairman, ZMC, Dr. Prasanna Prathak, Director Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat, Dr. J.V.N.S. Prasad, Principal Scientist & Co-PI, NICRA-TDC, Dr. M. Prabhakar, Principal Scientist & PI, NICRA, along with other Scientists from ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad. Heads of NICRA KVKs of the concluded districts and also the new districts and KVK staff involved in NICRA project, Project Coordinators at ICAR-CRIDA, Heads of Divisions of ICAR-CRIDA, Co-PIs of TDC and staff of ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati attended the workshop.

 

Dr. M. Thoithoi Devi has welcomed the chief guest, chairman, DEE from AAU and all the participants. Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI has briefed about the TDC programme which is operational in 8 districts out of which only 3 districts are continuing in next phase and additional 5 new districts will be joining soon. He presented the salient achievements of the NICRA KVKs during the last five years and emphasized on strategies for scaling up of resilient technologies in the district. A brief introduction about the selection of new KVKs was given by Dr J.V.N.S. Prasad and highlighted the approach to be adopted in the next phase of NICRA-TDC. Dr. H.K. Senapati, Chairman of the ZMC of NICRA emphasized on developing suitable flood tolerant varieties, integrated farming system, piggery and poultry considering the local resources to reduce the risk. He also addressed the KVK heads to introduce high value crops to the farmers in both Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh states. Dr. Prasanna Prathak, DEE, AAU, highlighted the resilient technologies adopted by NICRA villages in the state of Assam.

 

Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, emphasized the need for adopting farming system approach for demonstrating climate resilient technologies. Predominant farming system typologies and its constraints need to be identified and complete package of technologies must be demonstrated for the selected typologies in a holistic manner. Existing KVKs must focus on scaling up of promising resilient technologies through convergence with other line departments and NGOs so as to spread the technologies to larger areas and new KVKs must identify the suitable resilient technologies for demonstration.

 

During the meeting, 8 KVKs presented consolidated reports and 3 KVKs presented action plan for 2021-22. During the meeting several suggestions were received from the participants for strengthening of the program of TDC-NICRA 2021-22.
