Technical Workshop for Collaboration Between Project on Climate Resilient Agriculture (PoCRA), Govt. of Maharashtra and ICAR-CRIDA on Climate Resilient Villages

A One-day workshop was held to discuss about the collaboration between PoCRA and ICAR-CRIDA as the Government of Maharashtra is planning to enhance climate-resilience and profitability of smallholder farming systems in 15 districts of Maharashtra involving about 5000 villages. Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, CRIDA in his welcome remarks emphasised the need for expanding the climate resilient villages and the need to address the variable rainfall and drought situation in Maharashtra and welcomed the initiative of the Government of Maharashtra in taking the learning’s of NICRA to several villages. He also informed about the memorandum of understanding signed earlier between ICAR and the Government of Maharashtra, in this regard.


Shri Vijay Kolekar and Preetam Vanjari represented PoCRA and made presentation about the salient aspects of the project.  He explained about the initiative of Government of Maharashtra in promoting climate-resilient agricultural systems, preparation of cluster level mini-watershed plans, climate smart agriculture and resilient farming systems, efficient and sustainable use of water for agriculture, climate-resilient post-harvest management and value chain promotion, promotion of farmer producer companies as part of the project. Presentations on vulnerability assessment being carried out for various districts of the country and the approach adopted for climate resilient villages as part of NICRA were made.  Identification of climatically vulnerable villages in Maharashtra using the vulnerability indices developed by CRIDA was discussed.  Other areas of collaboration explored were on development of agro advisories, contingency plans for the clusters, technological backstopping and development of monitoring and evaluation framework for climate resilient villages.
