Review of KVKs under NICRA Project at ATARI Jodhpur by Zonal Monitoring Committee

Zonal Monitoring  Committee (ZMC) Team under NICRA Project visited two KVKs of Haryana State (Sirsa and Yamunanagar) during 21 to 23rd December, 2017. The ZMC consisting of Prof. MC Varshenya (Former VC of Kamdhanu University, Gandhinagar), Dr S K Yadav, Pr. Scientist (Director, CRIDA Hyderabad nominee), Dr RK Godara (Director Extension CCSHAU Hisar nominee), Dr PP Rohilla, Pr Scientist and Nodal Officer, (Co-Chairman nominee of Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur), Dr D S Bundela, Head from CSSRI Karnal (DDG NRM nominee) and Dr (Mrs) K. Nagasree, Pr Scientist from CRIDA Hyderabad (NICRA Coordinator TDC nominee). The committee interacted with the Sirsa KVK and Yamunanagar KVK personnel and reviewed the salient achievements of NICRA-TDC programme during last six years.

The ZMC Team during their visits to the sites was accompanied by the  NICRA KVK project personnel. Following the presentations made initially at the KVKs for an overview of the problems and the activities undertaken, in-depth discussions took place with the farmers and VCRMC members at respective  NICRA village sites of both the KVKs. The Chairman and other members made valuable suggestions for improvement and to scale-up the climate resilient technologies for the benefit of farming community.

The climatic variability of the villages are prolonged dry spells, fluctuation in temperature, decreasing water table, moderate heat waves frost and salinity in some patches of Rupana Khurd village. Climate smart interventions which  have been introduced in NICRA and adjoining villages were found viable after inception of NICRA project viz., Happy seeder for residue management, laser land levelling (LLL), sustainable intensification by inclusion of moong bean crop in rice wheat cropping system (RWCS) in double ZT situations, direct seeded rice (DSR), Integrated Crop Management (ICM) by layering of different interventions viz., LLL and balanced fertilization along with IPM and IDM.
